Delphi MyFi

Pros:
Small and ergonomic unit. Built-in antenna. Includes home and vehicle kit. Records up to 5 hours of programming. Stock and sports ticker.

Cons:
One of the most expensive satellite radio receivers, although this is somewhat offset by the inclusion of so many accessories.

Overall:
The MyFi is an extremely versatile device. It was well-designed and includes features that most users will find attractive. It is perfect for on-the-go people who want to take their favorite radio programs with them.
  Delphi MyFi

Released in December, 2004, the Delphi MyFi is the first truly portable XM satellite radio. Since satellite radio was first introduced, a major drawback has always been the lack of true "Walkman-style" portability. With the introduction of the MyFi, that barrier has been broken and all I can say is, "Wow!" It is the first satellite radio with a built-in antenna.

Display & buttons

The ergonomics of the MyFi make it very comfortable to hold in your hand. It has a convenient thumbwheel which makes one-handed operation very easy. At just over seven ounces, it feels very light (although quite sturdy). It has an integrated Li-Ion battery and a bright and easy-to-read large illuminated six-line LCD display.

Other features

One of the best features of the MyFi is the ability to record up to five hours of programming. If you commute to work by subway or spend a lot of time in a building without easy access to a window, you can set the MyFi to record your favorite program at home and then listen to the recording even when out of range of the satellite signal.

Here's a feature for those who like to watch their stocks go up and down (and down and down) all day long. The MyFi includes a stock ticker which lets you program which stocks you would like to monitor. For sports fans, the MyFi offers a sports score ticker.

Delphi didn't skimp on the extras. The MyFi ships with all the accessories you'll ever need including a home kit, vehicle kit, headphones, wireless remote control, belt clip, and carrying case. They also include a strange-looking antenna that you can clip to your lapel (or hat, I guess) if you have trouble getting an adequate signal.

The MyFi includes a built-in FM modulator which had, in my tests, very good range. You could conceivably set up your MyFi somewhere in your home and listen to programming all over the house by FM radio. Unlike some other models, the MyFi lets you set the frequency of the FM modulator directly.

Summary

Here is the question that everyone will want to know: Does the built-in antenna really work well? In my experience, yes. In fact, I even was able to receive an intermittent signal in the middle of a room (probably fifteen feet from a window). I'm not sure why this worked, but it did. I think for someone using the MyFi clipped to their belt outside while walking or gardening, it would work very well.

As the first truly portable satellite radio, the Delphi MyFi has broken new ground. Unlike many first-generation products, this one seems to have been very well engineered and includes many useful new features. Although some may find the Roady or SkyFi to be much more affordable, the MyFi is an amazing radio and a solid value for the money.
